Conference Championships
The Brumbies met their cross town rivals
for a second time this season to see who would
advance to the top tier for the upcoming State
Champioships. As always with these two teams,
the game started off at a frenetic pace. We
immediately put loads of pressue inside their
22 to start the game. Ravenwood, who was much
improved, played good defense, but we eventually
bowled in to score first. Spencer nailed the
conversion, 7-0.
There was more of the same as both
teams battled. We played good defence and knocked
on their door plenty of times. Wil Lipsey picked
off a pass and ran in a 60 meter try. Conv made
14-0. With time running down, the Raptors peeled
off a line out and scored to end the half, 14-7.
In the second, we regained our composure after
getting unorganized early on. The pack had many
drives but again couldn't seal the deal. Finally,
Billy Goff went wide and threw a nice off-load
to Boggs who dotted down in the corner. Conv
missed 19-7. Later in the 2nd, Ravenwood bowled
over in the corner to put up five. However,
the boys regained possession, held on and advanced
to the Cup Finals.
Man of the Match: Wil Lipsey
Brentwood Traveled to MTSU May
3rd and 4th Weekdend for the South Championships.
Our first game was against the South Carolina
State Champs. This was a first year team
with a lot of good athletes. However,
our experience and organization won the
day. Our pack dominated with hammers and
pick and goes to put over 4 well earned
tries. We gave up two garbage tries by
simply not hitting touch and an ill advised
pass that turned into a soccer match going
the other way.
Man of the Match: Spencer Buford
The second game was against the 1st seed
from Rummel who we played close last year
at South. They were organized and physical
at the breakdown. We lost a lot of ball
by going to ground to early and stupid
penalties. The boys played hard and it
was 0-0 at halftime. Rummel scored when
one of their players snaked through our
defense. We then pounded away at their
goal line for a good ten minutes but couldn't
seal the deal. Whistle blew and it was
7-0 and on to the consolation game.
Man of the Match: Billy Goff and Curt
Pickard, for their immense work in the
trenches
Our game on Sunday was against Brother
Martin from LA who we played at Nash at
the beginning of the year. They were a
much improved team and they gave us all
we had. They even scored first which seemed
to wake us up. We were originally un-organized
at the beginning of the day and it showed.
However, in the 2nd half, the boys in
blue completely changed the tempo and
put over 2 well earned pack dominated
tries. They scored again to make it 14-12
and then we hung on for the last two minutes
to get the win.
Man of the Match: Derek Faulkner, For
his unwillingness to lose with his hard-charging
runs in the backline

Franklin 0
April 6, 2008
The Brumbies had a good showing this past weekend. We were
fairly successful running our pattern and our defense was decent.
Franklin played hard to the very end and must be commended for their
determination. The boys in blue were just more organized and more
fit. Our forward pack kept good possession and let the opposition
see very little ball. The backline had a rough first half with a lot
of ball handling errors which were later ironed out.
Billy Goff was solid as usual in the line-outs and Ian Smith and Curt
Pickard put in big tackles. Many players ran hard and were rewarded
with scores. Even newbies like Alex Goff, Brett F. and Taylor Roth
touched down for points. However, it was Boggs who was impressive
on the wing with two tries in the first half.

Independence 12
Our B side looked good against Independence.
Independence is a first year time which put
up a very strong effort. Their side will be
a team to contend with in the future. However,
the Brumbies looked solid in most facets of
the game. In fact, this back line put out the
best performance of any game we've played including
the A side. Ball went from pack to wing several
times with solid phases to keep possession.
Zach L. was competent at the 10 and continuously
spread the ball wide. Kurt Gadke and Taylor
Roth were also solid at the Centers and Matt
Wyatt ran well at 8.

Siegel
Stars 7
The Brumbies traveled to the Boro Wednesday
night to kick off their first game of the MT
Conference Season. Having two previous matches
cancelled due to weather, this was our first
league match-up and the boys were anxious to
get a run.
In the beginning stanza, the boys kept their
heads and were not affected by the hostile environment.
In fact, we worked several phase ball into their
territory and earned a penalty kick in front
of the posts which Spencer Buford duly slotted.
As the half went on, both teams worked to get
some kind of rhythm and establish good field
position. Late in the first half, our game rust
began to show and we gave up a dumb high tackle
penalty twelve meters out. With time expiring,
the Stars sent their +300 pound prop over the
line for a try. Conversion made, 7-3.
The second half was very tense as both teams
looked to score that knock-out blow to put the
game away. Siegel looked promising with their
switch field play but eventually their last
pass would go to ground or get knocked on. Wil
Lipsey and Derek Faulkner were excellent in
backline defense while making Siegel’s
#10 and hard charging inside center a complete
non-factor. The Brumbies had many chances to
score but couldn’t seal the deal. As with
other matches with Siegel, the home team’s
ill-discipline would rear its head as two of
their players were binned for repeated infractions.
To no avail, a strong Siegel defense and our
lack of game time fitness would be the case
as we began to tire. In the end, we were not
able to get that much needed try as the whistle
blew with the ball in their territory. Final
score 7-3.
Man of the Match: Spencer Buford, for his booming
kicks / #9 Adjustments
Here’s to Trey Harris who is on the mend
again after suffering another shoulder injury.

Nash Bash Weekend,
March 1 & 2
The Brentwood Brumbies played their first
games of the season this past weekend in the
5 th annual U19 Nash Bash at Vanderbilt University.
The weather was excellent and we were looking
to get some valuable experience before our
regular season conference games. Our first “A” side
match Saturday morning was against Nicolet
from Wisconsin.
We started out with a lot of intensity within
the first ten minutes and looked to play good
rugby. However, as time wore on, it was apparent
that the lack of practice due to foul weather
had shown sizable holes in our game. Nicolet
had a sizeable pack and they were able to
disrupt our game plan. They utilized their
competent back line and began to throw the
ball wide. Many times our defensive pattern
broke down and we couldn’t cover basic
ball movements. As a result, Nicolet scored
four tries all coming from poor backline defense.
Also, our lack of fitness was a problem, but
that was to be expected in our first full
match. Overall, good play by the forwards.
Backline defense needs to be tightened up.
All issues very fixable.
Man of the Match: Billy Goff / Curt Pickard,
for their hard work in the trenches
Our second game on Saturday was a “B” side
match against White Station. As with our first
match, indecision in our backline resulted
in two easy tries for the team from Memphis.
Consequently, we were able to regroup and
tighten up our defense. The boys eventually
put together several good phases which turned
into well deserved tries. We were able to
run with more depth and get good go-forward.
Again, our scrums were solid and our set plays
were decent. We’re still having trouble
with the basics like hitting touch and taking
care of the ball which can be remedied with
more practice time. Ryan Jones and Taylor
Roth made big tackles while Ingo B’s
conversions put his team over the top, 19-17.
Man of the Match: Nick Hudson, 2 Trys
Sunday morning proved to be another wonderful
day as far as the weather was concerned and
the boys came out with a sense of purpose.
The “A” side was paired up against
Brother Martin from New Orleans.
From the whistle, Brentwood played solid
rugby and were able to execute several phase
ball. Also, we corrected most of our backline
deficiencies and tried to keep their backs
in check. Matt Wyatt and Jeff Prosise had
many strong runs and Trey directed the pack
efficiently throughout the game. Billy Goff
and Curt Pickard were again massive at the
breakdown and set a good platform for quick
ball. Overall, this was our best performance
of the weekend because we were able to establish
our pattern and keep possession.
Man of the Match: Derek Faulkner, 2 Trys
